The Causes and Home Remedies for Eczema

Written by Lucille Green on March 31st, 2009

Before discussing a remedy for eczema, it is a good idea to know a bit more about the disorder because while the immune system is affected in some way, the exact cause of eczema is obscure. While we do not have a cure for eczema yet, our awareness of causes and interventions continues to grow. This is indicated in the sufferer by skin that is red, itchy and may initiate to flake from the dryness caused by the complaint. In serious cases of the disease flaking, bleeding, blistering, crusting and cracking of skins surface can be seen.

Over the years many eczema remedies have been tried and claimed to be a remedy for eczema but even today while there are numerous interventions, it is still a matter of trial error to find one that works for each person. Because it is connected with the immune system, some individuals believe that the immune system needs to be strengthened by the use of a healthy well balance diet. This idea stems from the belief that often the all the body requires is good nutrition and not medical intervention.

An eczema flare up often signifies a lack in Vitamin A, especially beta carotene which is believed to be a major contributing component in a cure for eczema. This important nutrient is found in numerous green vegetables and because eczema is considered an immune-disorder, having a diet that contains more green vegetables would be a healthy remedy for eczema.

The more holistic the cure for eczema is the better for the person as those will not interfere with the body as chemical based solutions, nor will they make the disorder worse. Often antihistamines are used as an eczema relief but it is possible for them to interfere with the bodies histamine output causing an adverse effect and making the disorder worse so it is worth checking the possible results before they are used. Creams purported to be a cure for eczema are often just very good moisturizers which can be used to help prevent and reduce the eczema disorder.

Hydrocortisone creams which are steroids can clear up eczema quite clearly but should be used sparingly and with caution as the best way to stop eczema is to find out what activated it in the first place. Some sufferers swear by herbal curatives and that they are a cure for eczema because they only hold holistic components. Sorbelene moisturizing lotion containing avocado oil, oatmeal paste and other herbs is one of those creams that claim to help the sufferer.

Ground oatmeal can be added to a bath as a natural remedy for eczema as it is claimed to be a wonderful way to treat mild to serious eczema. If you bath in tepid water on a continual basis you should put a emollient or lotion on while you are still damp as it will seal the moisture in, helping to relieve the dryness. The oatmeal soothes itchy skin surface so you can stop scratching and give your skin surface a chance to heal, although some studies suggest you shouldn’t bathtub at all or at the most, infrequently, instead use a tepid shower and drying yourself carefully with a soft dry towel.
