What Every Person Should Know About Personal Skin Care
Written by Frell Johnson on March 4th, 2009Good personal skin care is following a routine or a procedure for attending to the needs of your skin. We all know the importance of ?personal skin care?. The opinion on how-to (for personal skin care) differs from person to person. Some people believe that going to beauty parlors every other day is personal skin care. Others believe that personal skin care is just a matter of applying some cream or lotion on your skin, every now and then. Many people think that personal skin care is an event that happens once a month or year and there are others that busy themselves with ?personal skin care? all the time. A good skin care routine is not that complicated and neither is it that expensive considering its benefits.
Before you start with a routine, it is important to determine your skin-type (oily, dry, sensitive, normal etc) and select the personal skin care products that are suitable for you. It is also recommended that you experiment with different products to find what is right for your particular skin. This is a basic 4 step process that should work for most people with the above referenced skin types.
Cleansing is the first process in the routine. Cleansers are made up of three main ingredients, Oil, Water, and Surfactants. The Oil and Surfactants extract the dirt from your skin and the water flushes it away, leaving your skin clean and beautiful. There are a couple of things that you should remember when cleansing. Always make sure that you use a soap-free cleanser. Always use luke warm water instead of hot or cold water. Soap, hot water and cold water can harm your skin. Over cleansing can also harm your skin, so make sure you use things moderately.
The second process in the personal skin care routine is exfoliation. Your skin follows a natural maintenance process in order to remove dead skin cells and replace them with new ones. Exfoliation is just a way to assist your skin in this process. Dead skin cells are not capable of responding to personal skin care products but will absorb these products, hence preventing them from reaching the new skin underneath. Thus removing dead skin cells is important in order to increase the effectiveness of all personal skin care products. Generally, exfoliation takes its place just after cleansing. As with any personal skin care procedure, it?s important that you understand how much exfoliation you need. Exfoliate 4-5 times per week for oily/normal skin and 1-2 times per week for dry/sensitive skin. Exfoliate a couple of times more in hot and humid weather.
Moisturizing is the next step. Even people with oily skin need to moisturize their skin. Moisturizers help seal the moisture into your skin; it also helps to attract moisture from the air. This is the main key to keeping your skin soft and smooth. It is possible to over moisturize your skin, so be sure to be moderate in your usage. Over moisturizing can clog your skin pores leaving it damaged. Within a week you should know exactly how much moisturizer you should use for your needs. Hint: moisturizers work best when your skin is damp.
The last process in the personal skin care routine is sunscreen. Dermatologists recommend that everyone where sunscreen every day, whether the sun is out or not. Many moisturizers come with UV protection built right in so you receive double benefits and one less step when you use them.
This 4 step process is again recommended for typical skin types (oily, normal, combination and dry). Severe skin disorders may require a visit to a Dermatologist to determine what is a correct routine and what products will work best for you. However, for those with typical skin it is recommended that you experiment with a few products until you find the ones that work best for you. Tip: use the same brand for all your products if you can, they were made to work well with one another.
