			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I&#8217;d like to introduce you to of one of the better fitness programs that I&#8217;ve encountered to date, by writing a review of the actual plan itself. You may have already heard about &#8216;The Truth About Abs&#8217;, and encountered a lot of sales pitches and &#8216;is this a scam?&#8217; baiting ads. What I&#8217;d like to do is give you some actual information about the science behind the plan, because in my opinion this program is definitely more than hype, and offers sound fitness and nutritional information that will help anyone who is trying to get fit and lean.</p>
<p>While the book by Mike Geary, &#8220;The Truth About Abs&#8221;, is branded as a manual to creating 6 pack abs, it&#8217;s really much more of a lifestyle manual. The Truth About Abs is an easy to follow guide to changing how you eat and how you exercise in order to achieve the results you have always dreamed of. Mike&#8217;s 161 page book is broken down into 3 broad sections which are as follows:</p>
<p>1. An introduction to the program, and general information on what it means to be lean, body fat percentage, what effective abs training is, metabolism, and lean body mass.</p>
<p>2. Workouts, information on how to exercise more efficiently, multi-joint vs single joint exercises, and total body work outs with surprising information on why cardio IS NOT the best way to lose weight; and</p>
<p>3. Diet and Nutrition, including information on blood sugar and insulin, the Glycemic Index, and the thermic (calorie burning) effects of food.</p>
<p>The Truth About Abs training program has two parts : Interval training and Resistance and Weight training. The fitness schedules are easy to follow and are time effective. The program explains how sessions longer than 45-60 are not a good use of your time. The program calls for 3-4 sessions per week, each about 45-6- minutes.</p>
<p>If you really want to get your body toned and in shape, then you should easily be able to find time for this schedule. The bonus is you don&#8217;t need a gym or a lot of equipment. However, Mike suggests having a set of dumb bells and an exercise ball to most effectively perform the workouts. This shouldn&#8217;t be a huge investment, $30-40 at the most &#8211; way cheaper than a gym, and it means you have created your own gym right at home.</p>
<p>This program advises eating 5-6 smaller meals per day. Mike suggests eating every 3 hours during waking hours. He also suggests that you plan your meals for an entire week, and once per week go shopping only for the items you need for those meals.</p>
<p>There is also a section which explains how to determine your total calorie requirements &#8211; along with the more frequent smaller meals, this will help you figure out the total amount of food you should be consuming. This was a great help for me, to know that this is not a fad diet where you are will be hungry over half of the time.</p>
<p>The meal plans provided in the book make it easy to shop for and prepare your food. The meal plans provide more than enough food &#8211; you are unlikely to experience hunger pains &#8211; however the plans are most likely a change from your current diet, and in order to be successful you need to be disciplined with your nutrition. This will be vitally important to your success. It is clearly stated in this book that to succeed on the Truth About Abs program, you must apply BOTH the training strategies as well as the food strategies.</p>
<p>I hope that I&#8217;ve given you a better insight into the actual information behind all the hype. As you can see, there are no magic promises with this program, but rather a clearly laid out plan with plenty of information to support a fitness lifestyle change. If you truly commit yourself to making a change, having a guide with no-nonsense healthy advice is the best thing you can do to start on your path to physical change.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Most of the people wrongly believe a low fat diet is the way to lose belly fat. Many studies have shown a locarb diet is indeed more effective for belly fat loss.</p>
<p>Since the early 70s, Americans reduced their fat intake from forty percent to 34%. Yet, the obesity pandemic has been rising steeply since it commenced in the early 1980&#8242;s. Why?</p>
<p>Unjustifiable consumption of carbs. Our primal ancestors lived on a hunters-gatherers diet of basically meat, vegetables, fruits, seeds and nuts. Grain wasn&#8217;t even part of human diet till rural started about ten thousand years back. The increase in human population and decline in hunted large game made it necessary for humans to take on agriculture.</p>
<p>The evolution of human diet from typically animal sources to grain products ( refined carbohydrates ) has led straight to a fall in the quantity and quality of human life. Sicknesses and conditions like diabetes, obesity and heart disease which were once non-existent, are now commonplace.</p>
<p>Have a look at your existing diet. Are you consuming heaps of refined carbohydrates such as breads, pastas, cereals, cakes, biscuits and sugar? Excess consumption of refined carbohydrates prevents stored body fat from being used as energy. The body becomes adapted to burning sugar as fuel and forgets the best way to burn fat.</p>
<p>Everyone wishes some carbs. In the body, carbs are converted into glucose as a main source of energy for the brain. Unused glucose is stored as glycogen in the liver and muscles. Only the glycogen in the liver can be converted back to glucose to be used by the brain when obligatory.</p>
<p>The body has limited capacity for storing carbohydrates. Though the muscles can store more glycogen than the liver, its reserves can&#8217;t be broken down when energy is required by the brain. Once the glycogen reserves are full, excess carbohydrates are converted into fat.</p>
<p>Eating a high carb meal can cause a spike in glucose levels. This prompts the pancreas to release insulin into the blood vessels to lower the glucose levels. The bad news is insulin is a fat storage hormone. It tells the body to store excess carbs as fat. Fluctuation in blood sugar levels causes cravings for more carbohydrates and therefore, more fat storage in response to insulin.</p>

<p>So, the approach you need to take towards getting rid of belly fat is to think in terms of reducing your body&#8217;s oevrall fat percentage. But in order to do this, you first need to know what your body fat percentage is at the moment. You can have a personal trainer or doctor measure this for you, or you can get a body composition monitor.</p>
<p>Once you know what your percentage is, you then need to calculate how much weight you need to lose to get yourself down to the ideal body fat level.</p>
<p>For the sake of this example, let&#8217;s say you weighed 200 pounds, and your body fat was 20%. Now, let&#8217;s say you wanted your body fat to be 9%, you would then need to do this calculation:</p>
<p>* 0.2 (20%) &#8211; 0.09 (9%) = 0.11</p>
<p>* Plus 1 = 1.11</p>
<p>* 200 divided by 1.11 = 180 pounds (this is what you need to get your weight down to)</p>
<p>So, what does this mean? Well, this means you have to lose 20 pounds of full body weight. The problem is, you will want to achieve this without any muscle loss, and the only way to safely do that is to do it slowly. For example, over the course of 20 weeks &#8211; minimum! And you must use good exercise and nutrition too. If you try to lose weight any faster than this, and you do it in a bad way (i.e. without good nutrition), you will mess up your metabolism, which will just make things worse in the long run.</p>
