			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The FDA has sent another warning critical of dietary supplements.&nbsp; To many people who take dietary supplements this was yet another example of how the U.S. Food and Drug Administration kowtows to big pharmaceutical interests and discredits the value of dietary supplements.</p>
<p>There is however, a basis for legitimate concern about&nbsp;&ldquo;bad actors&rdquo; in the dietary supplement industry.&nbsp; These are the companies&nbsp;that make unwarranted claims, don&#8217;t have any scientific proof or clinical studies verifying the efficacy or safety of their products, intentionally mislabel their products and don&rsquo;t provide complete ingredient information.</p>
<p>The three main health and lifestyle issues unscrupulous manufacturers seem to be focusing on are: weight loss, sexual performance and body building.</p>
<p>The basic question is how to ensure continued access to legitimate and beneficial nutritional supplements while getting rid of disreputable companies that damage the reputation of all dietary supplement manufacturers, products, and representatives and may threaten the health of consumers.&nbsp;</p>
<p>&#8220;One size fits all&#8221; sanctions against the whole supplement industry by the FDA are not the answer.&nbsp;&nbsp;Those types of actions against all&nbsp;dietary supplements&nbsp;will lead to less access to dietary supplements, higher costs for supplements, and increased health care costs because people will have less choice to take supplements which have proven benefits that will keep them healthier and out of the hospital.</p>
<p>In it&#8217;s most recent criticism of dietary supplements, the Food and Drug Administration sent a letter to dietary supplement manufacturers in December, 2010 addressing &ldquo;escalating concerns&rdquo; about undeclared or deceptively labeled ingredients in products marketed as &ldquo;natural&rdquo; alternatives to prescription drugs.</p>
<p>The letter warned about undeclared ingredients in some supplements, unsupported claims that they can cure serious and chronic medical conditions, and using dangerous chemical ingredients.</p>
<p>The FDA cautioned: &ldquo;Consumers should avoid products marketed as supplements that claim to have effects similar to prescription drugs&rdquo;.</p>
<p>As explained by Congress in the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA), which became law in 1994, a dietary supplement is a product (other than tobacco) intended to supplement the diet, contains one or more dietary ingredients (vitamins, herbs or other botanicals, amino acids and other substances), and&nbsp;is intended to be taken by mouth as a pill,</p>
<p>Millions of consumers recognize the benefits of dietary supplements and use them as a key part of their efforts to achieve and maintain optimal health.&nbsp; Many of these people are wary of the harmful side effects and high cost of prescription drugs and the toxic chemicals that some contain.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Are Dietary Supplements Safe and Who Uses Them?</strong></p>
<p>According to surveys, the majority of the 158 million Americans who use supplements believe them to be either reasonably or completely safe.</p>
<p>Those who believe in the use of dietary supplements are sometimes portrayed as gullible victims of &ldquo;snake oil salesmen&rdquo; or as misguided advocates for some radical&nbsp;natural lifestyle.&nbsp; However, the fact is that the use of supplements has come to be seen as an intelligent choice&nbsp;for maintaining health and wellness.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p>A survey of 900 physicians and 277 nurses done by the Council for Responsible Nutrition&nbsp;regarding their use of dietary supplements and whether they recommended dietary supplements showed that 72% of physicians and 89% of nurses in the sample personally used dietary supplements at least occasionally.&nbsp; 51% of physicians and 59% of nurses said that they regularly use dietary supplements.&nbsp; Most reported using dietary supplements for &ldquo;overall health and wellness&rdquo;.&nbsp; When queried about recommending dietary supplements to their patients, 79% of physicians and 82% of nurses said they did.</p>
<p>Surveys have also indicated that people use supplements for reasons such as treating colds or alleviating depression, despite the fact that there are health claims restrictions about product therapeutic benefits.</p>
<p><strong>What&rsquo;s the solution?</strong></p>
<p>Is there a solution which provides wide and unfettered access to dietary supplements while winnowing out the disreputable products and manufacturers?</p>
<p>It appears that enforcement of existing laws might provide part of the solution.&nbsp; But this enforcement should should be focused on unscrupulous operators and not penalize the entire dietary supplement industry.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>One thing that almost all beginning bodybuilders and weight trainers want to know is  how to get big muscles quick. Heck, even many more advanced  lifters want the answer to that question .  It&#8217;s not all that mysterious, despite how it gets painted. It comes down to three ingredients: hard training, proper nutrition and hydration, and 8 or 9 hours of good quality sleep every night  . There&#8217;s no magic pill (maybe a shot, but you can end up in the slammer for that kind of stuff ) that will make your muscles magically grow.</p>
<p>There are three things to remember when training your muscles for growth; intensity, intensity, intensity . High intensity is mandatory if you want to see your legs as thick as tree trunks, shoulders so big your mom can&#8217;t hug you any more, and a Mt. Everest peak on your biceps.  If you&#8217;re hittin&#8217; it hard enough, your body will feel like jelly for about 3 hours after you&#8217;re done working out.  </p>
<p>There are many techniques to achieve this . If you have a workout partner, make sure they have you take your sets about 2 or 3 reps past failure. <p>Do 4 exercises per major body part, and 6 &ndash; 8 reps per set. You should warm up first by doing high rep sets and lighter weights. A 2 or 3 sets of between 12 and 16 moderately easy reps should be fine for a warm up. To increase size, you want to recruit as many muscle fibers as possible with each rep. That points to such movements as the bench press, power clean, squat, pull up, dead lift, and seated row. These are movements that involve more than one joint and several muscle groups.</p>
<p> Overtraining is one thing that can sink your progress. High intensity training will get you to where you want to be, but you have to balance training with recovery, so you can actually grow.   That can be a tough balance to strike, but the key is to take plenty of time off between training sessions for the same body part. Don&#8217;t train the same body part every other or every third day. Unless you&#8217;re a freak of nature, and are getting perfect nutrition, you&#8217;ll be over training that body part, and it will slow down your growth. </p>
<p>Try taking at least 3, but preferably 4 days between training sessions for the same body part(s). For example, do a training cycle where you train chest on day 1 and day 5. That will give your muscles the chance they need to recover from the beating you gave them on day 1.</p>
<p>One thing that many people do that keeps them from getting the results they want, especially young people who are trying to train, work, and go out on the town, is not get enough sleep. You muscles recover and grow only while you&#8217;re sleeping, so make sure you get enough shut eye.
