			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p> Bad <a href="http://www.hippocrateshealthlifestyle.com/359/improper-food-combining-causes-abdominal-bloating-stomach-gas/" target="_blank">food combining</a>: the scourge of the body causing  abdominal bloating, stomach gas and fermentation.</p>
<p>Even when you eat  great raw organic plant foods, you want to know  the rules of food combining. In this post we will cover them in an easyway to remember .</p>
<p> You have been eating raw organic fruits and vegetables, you&rsquo;ve come a long way from meat and processed foods. But let&rsquo;s take it up to another level. Are you eating with good   food combining?</p>
<p>Your digestive tract is like   one-lane expressway.  Passing is not  an option. So what  can you do to to keep things  moving?</p>
<p>You may have noticed that  animals in the wild don&rsquo;t combine foods, we&rsquo;re the only ones who do. They eat one thing at a time, whether it&rsquo;s grasses  or fresh kill for the carnivores.</p>
<p>We  enjoy eating a variety of&nbsp; ~ different} foods and it is  really important to follow a few simple rules to  maintain good digestion. I learned these from the <a title="www.hippocrateshealthlifestyle.com/" href="http://www.hippocrateshealthlifestyle.com/" target="_blank">Hippocrates Health Institute</a>, the leader in raw food health.</p>
<p>Let&rsquo;s start  with the slowest foods in the digestive tract:</p>
<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; 1. Protein sources are the slowest. For vegans, these come primarily from seeds and nuts although the greens also contain significant amounts. But it&rsquo;s the seeds and nuts that are slower, taking 4 hours to move through the digestive tract.<br />&nbsp;&nbsp; 2. Starches are the winter squashes, yams and beans. These are about 3 hours to digest.<br />&nbsp;&nbsp; 3. Veggies: greens, growing sprouts from sunflower or pea greens, kale, lettuce; in short most of the green veggies. These take about 2 hours.<br />&nbsp;&nbsp; 4. Fruit &#8212; takes 1 hour or less.</p>
<p>What happens when you do improper food combining is that the faster ones are  stopped by the slow ones. To complicate things , the different food groups also use  different digestive juices and oft cancel each other out as they try to digest it all at  the same time.</p>
<p>So here&rsquo;s what you do:</p>
<p>&nbsp;&nbsp; 1. Eat protein sources only with veggies.<br />&nbsp;&nbsp; 2. Eat starches only with veggies.<br />&nbsp;&nbsp; 3. Veggies go with protein sources or starches, but never both at once.<br />&nbsp;&nbsp; 4. Fruit: eat exclusively and eat it an hour before other food as it passes through very rapidly. You could have fruit an hour before a meal instead of for dessert.</p>
<p>By the way: is tomato  vegetable or fruit? FRUIT</p>
<p>And an bonus tip: you do need to drink a lot of water, but not with your meals. You are making your body work much harder to digest the food by  diluting your own gastric juices!</p>

<p>First of all why is it that proper foods and the right combinations make all the difference, especially when a person shows symptoms of disease?</p>
<p>We can say digestion begins in the mouth; and actually, that process starts with what the nose smells. Think of what happens when you smell turkey cooking. Your mouth begins to salivate, right? Salivary amylase in the mouth begins the breakdown of carbohydrates. That process, with carbohydrates should be completed in the small intestine.</p>

<p>The small intestine is the major digestive organ in the body. It begins at the pyloric sphincter, a valve-like gate way leading from the stomach to the duodenum, the first section of the small intestine, and ends at the ileocecal valve. If foods have been combined correctly there will be less stress in the duodenum.</p>
<p>Small bits of food at a time are digested in the duodenum, the first segment of the small intestine. The pyloric sphincter, the gatekeeper between the stomach and the small intestine only allows small amounts in at a time so that the digestive juices, enzymes produced by the pancreas and the liver have ample time to be produced, meet in the hepatopancreatic duct, and then travel to the duodenum through the hepatopancreatic ampulla.</p>
<p>Even if medicine suppresses the body response, let&#8217;s say acid reflux which is really an alert that something is wrong and needs the owners attention, the underlying cause is still there. The underlying cause is bad digestion.</p>
<p>The assimilating factor in the small intestine, which spans the many feet of the small intestine is aided by the finger-like projections called villi and micro-villi, is slowed immeasurably when the body gets bogged down with days old undigested waste. The body begins starving for nutrition and the aging process accelerates. Over many years, illness sets in and the body will most likely be overweight.</p>
<p>Medicine may suppress the body response, which is really an alarm that something is wrong and needs the owners attention but the underlying cause is still there. The underlying cause is bad digestion.</p>
<p>The assimilating factor in the small intestine, which spans the many feet of the small intestine is aided by the finger-like projections called villi and micro-villi, and is slowed immeasurably when the body gets bogged down with days old undigested waste. Aging occurs at a more rapid pace after years of this abuse because the body is starving for nutrition and tired.</p>
<p>Once this pattern is established, once illness sets in, what should you do? What are the next steps back to health? Eat mostly fruits and vegetables, use a juicer and eat food in combinations that ease the work load of the digestive system.</p>
