Could The Following \”Healthy\” Foods Be Sabotaging Your Progress?

Written by Katherine Crawford, M.S. on February 5th, 2010

Everybody wants a slice of the fitness pie. After all, there is a lot of money to be made selling \”healthy\” foods geared towards fitness minded people.

Unfortunately, a lot of what is marketed as healthy to the public in reality is NOT healthy at all. In fact, a lot of these products actually decrease health.

So without further ado, here are \”healthy\” foods that could be sabotaging your progress:

1. Fancy juices: How convenient it is to simply start drinking some juice while thinking that you are doing something good for your health. Unfortunately, most juices are simply sugar-laden anti-oxidant-stripped formulations. You are much better off sticking with fruits.

2. Caffeine pills: Most energy formulations are simply different combinations of caffeine with other ingredients. And caffeine causes your body to release hormones that energize you. While this is ok every once in a while, chronic use of energy pills can leave you over exhausted.

3. Flintstone pills: If you are going to take a multivitamin as recommended by the Harvard school of public health, make sure it has no more than 100% of the recommended daily intake for any given nutrient. Anything greater and you run the risk of toxicity.

4. High fructose cereals: Most cereals promoted as healthy are simply solid forms of high fructose corn syrup. Now there are a couple good brands out there, but the vast majority are just absolutely horrible for anybody wishing to get in shape.

5. Nutrition bars: Again, most nutrition bars are simply candy bars wrapped in \”healthy\” advertising. Simply take a peek at the nutrition label and you will see just how much sugary stuff is packed into these sugar bombs.

Now the best alternative here is to eat natural food and if you need a boost in energy stay away from energy pills and drink energizing teas instead. Nothing can rival natural food when it comes to maximizing health and fitness.
