Diets, The Best Way To Lose Weight Or Not?

Written by Henry John on March 11th, 2009

A new study has just been released by the Harvard School of Public Health. It has been investigating some of the most popular diets in an effort to see which one of them produced the best results. What it concluded was that it didn’t really matter which one you went on, they produced the same results, be it Atkins, Zone, high carb or low fat. The search for the best way to lose weight continues!

It was quite an extensive study. It took place over two years and involved over 800 people. One of the most important findings was that the weight that was lost was, at best, moderate and that it came back again.

In a study a few years ago a team from UCLA found that the majority of people who went on a diet never achieved permanent weight loss. The two studies taken together have produced some interesting facts.

The reality these studies have uncovered is that diets don’t work. Importantly, they don’t supply a structure either. Structure is an important element in successful weight loss. They also said that losing weight is essentially about calories in, calories out and exercise.

If you get the Atkins book, it’s a vast tome, written in close type, it’s hundreds of pages long. Can people really be expected to wade through all that detail? It has to be a lot simpler than that!

It is clear from the results of the study that if you want to lose weight permanently the one thing you don’t do is go on a diet.

It is of course about calories in and calories out and this can be put into a very simple and structured format of habits, slim habits, habits that include what you eat and how much you eat.

Getting the right habits, slim habits that help you to regulate the number of calories in and the number of calories out, is the key to permanent weight loss.
