Have you ever wondered why so many people consider themselves failures in terms of losing weight. Do you think it is because people are too lazy or won’t give up their favorite foods or take the time to exercise? Whatever the reasons are it is important to gain an understanding of what the major reasons are that hold people back from achieving their weight loss goals so that you don’t make the same mistakes.

One of the main reasons is due to the fact that a majority of people fail to understand the serious risks that are involved in being obese or overweight. The main reason why people want to lose weight is so that they will look better, with health reasons being much less important. However, if you really look at the information that it available to you, you will discover that being overweight can really pose some very serious health risks and can lead to death as well.

So if looking better isn’t enough to really motivate you to meeting your weight loss goal, maybe the knowledge of the health dangers you are undertaking by being overweight will cause you to take losing weight more seriously. It’s one thing to want to lose a few pounds so that you will look good in a bikini for the upcoming summer, but that motivating factor is usually just short term and might not lead to lasting changes to your habits. If you were to focus on just how risky it is to your health, you might tend to take losing weight more seriously and follow through on making some major lifestyle changes.

This leads into the next point which is most people go on short term diets rather than committing to making lasting changes to their lifestyle. When the focus is on temporary diets, any short term weight loss usually doesn’t last and people gain the weight back. Diets focused on the short term are also not a lot of fun and many people end up abandoning them before reaching their goals.

People have a tendency to get misled by all of the misinformation and hype that goes along with the marketing of many of the fad diets and some of the popular media coverage concerning weight loss. When looking at quick fix and short term solutions, people never really get educated on what is really effective when it comes to losing weight. For lasting change, regular exercise and a healthy diet is what is necessary.

An important thing for people to understand is that body weight can fluctuate up and down. So if this is not kept in mind and people are expecting to be constantly losing weight, they get discouraged when at some point this doesn’t happen. They end up feeling very discouraged and many times even quit trying. Many people seem to think about weight loss in all or nothing terms.

One other major factor which holds people back from realizing their weight loss goals is that they don’t really know how much they eat or even what they eat every day. They don’t understand what they are eating in terms of their caloric intake or the nutritional value of the food. It is hard to make any headway with losing weight if you don’t understand how or what you eat can impact your weight loss plan.

Those are some of the main reasons why a majority of people fail to ever lose the weight on a permanent basis. Most people have a tendency to lean on the quick fix or short term solutions, and don’t take the time to properly focus or get the necessary information for making those necessary lasting changes. After you have had a chance to really understand the factors that are holding people back, you can get off to a good start on your weight loss goals by realizing that your focus needs to be long term and that you need to be sure to become well educated in terms of diet and exercise.
